Yet another Spring/Summer 2017 project...

As anyone who follows me on Instagram/Facebook/Twitter will know, I have been doing a lot of Spring/Summer 2017 projects recently. Working in Menswear was never really part of my plan and, although I don't regret the decision to move to Brussels and pursue it,  I miss working in womenswear. Womenswear print design is, generally, a lot more creative than menswear and I have noticed that I am losing many of my design skills in my current role....so I have been practicing outside of work- doing little projects here and there in the hopes that I can bulk up my portfolio and one day move back to womenswear.

The below project is a shape design project, unlike what I normally do, and is split into two variations of one trend. There is a chunk of text for each trend so please click on the image and have a read to find out more about each trend(I'll write a summary underneath too!)

As always I would love to know what you guys think!

For Spring/Summer 2017 the global attention is being drawn to the Southern Hemisphere with the Olympics this year taking place in Brazil, developments in the political relationship between the U.S and Cuba and general unrest in Venezuela. For my two trendboards for SS17 I wanted to draw colour/mood inspiration from this. I have developed a pop trend with two subcategories: eclectic pop and Havana pastel pop.

Here is the first....

naive print, playful pattern, political pop, edgy, bold fashion, punk fashion, colourful punk, contemporary punk, modern punk, bright colours, primary colours, LGBT fashion, down with the patriarchy, feminist fashion, slogan print, confetti crowd

The 'Eclectic pop' mini collection (please be nice with your constructive criticism as I put this together in only 3 days!)

Basic range ideas. Cheap, easy to manufacture garments.

More fashionable garments, responding to the target market(15-25 yr old females)

Trend led garments at a higher price point, can be more catwalk responsive.

In the project I tried to include a breakdown of the fabrics/details/trims that would be used in manufacturing.

The second part of the pop trend....

Pastel pop, pastel fashion, pastel trend, pop trend, Cuban trend, Havana inspired, Cactus print, tile print, abstract florals, soft tropical

Trend led fashion range.

Catwalk responsive 'Trend' product.

So there is another little insight into some of the things I have been working on recently. I'm also doing some wedding artworks for a few friends so have been working on those illustrations- you can see the start of them on instagram @beckyloisburns but failing that I will post them on here when they are all completed :)
